The Province of Cosenza has its own Councillor for equality.

This figure is appointed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies together with the Ministry for Equal Opportunities. Its aim is to protect women's and men's jobs by focusing on those situations that can hinder equality between genders on the labour market.

The Councillor for equality performs a key role in promoting female employment through forestalling and fighting discrimination while getting a job and in workplaces. It has, therefore, the role of both protecting and doing an active promotion.

The two Councillors for Equality of the Province of Cosenza, Rosellina Madeo, Esq. (regular councillor for equality) and Ms. Giulia Caminiti (alternate councillor for equality), both public officials in the execution of their duties, were appointed by the means of the Ministry Decree of March 2006 published in the Official Gazette of the Italian Republic No. 64 of 17 March 2006.

We must here underline some of their major functions before carrying out gender analysis concerning human resources.
 

Functions

they detect gender imbalances and, more generally, are opposed to discrimination of all kind;

they guarantee that development policies in the provincial area comply with equal opportunities;ncounter

they pursue active employment policies by enhancing and fulfilling their commitment to equal opportunities;

they ensure that both public and private institutions implement equal opportunities policies on the labour market;

they cooperate with Provincial Employment Offices to encounter infringements of regulations and to fight discrimination of all kind, as well as with local institutions' departments of labor and equality bodies;

they evaluate the results of positive action plans following Law No. 125 of 1991;

they are ex officio members of the three-party Provincial committee.
